Andrzej Rychard: Polish society and institutions: Has transformation been completed?

2015-05-19

The presentation deals with the sociological overview of the changes introduced in Poland during last 25 years.

Time: Wednesday May 20th, 2:15 - 4:00 PM

Venue: Torgny Segerstedt-room (ENG-2-1026)

The author adopts an evolutionary perspective enabling us to compare the dynamics of changes in the political, economic and social life. One of the issues analyzed is the level of consolidation of the democratic, market and civil society institutions. The author presents empirical data showing better economic than political consolidation processes and their relationship with the peculiar structure of social capital in Poland.  As a conclusion, the thesis on the completion of the current stage of transformation is presented. This means that the current model of “transformative promise” seems to be already exhausted.
