Methods for Ethnographic Research in Historical Studies of Primary Group Interaction: Assessing Leadership and Leadership Change
Friday the 13th of March, Segerstedt-room (Eng3-1026), Department of Sociology Uppsala University
Primary groups such as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and William Morris’s Firm are private worlds, and when doing historical research on them it is difficult to assess how the members interacted with one another and arrived at a shared creative vision. This task is made especially difficult when there are layers of conflicting assessments by historians and contemporaries of the roles members played in the group. In this workshop we examine a micro-sociological approach to assessing leadership and change in the structure and interaction of historical cases of collaborative circles.
